Characters Who Don't Dig Jive Talk

"They adopt the lifestyle of the jazz musician, including some or all of the following: dress, slang, use of cannabis and other drugs, relaxed attitude, sarcastic humor, self-imposed poverty, and relaxed sexual codes."

Dreams of Kerala

I want to make out with you, to this, on a rainy Sunday, the sun burning orange, about to retire.

Rouge

I want to eat with my hands, and be nude, and stand still while the rest of the world spins and spins around me. I want to feel the earth, every corner of it. I want to see the way that leaf falls, or that boundary changes, or how the pattern that water makes is one of the most beautiful chaotic messes ever created. I want to enjoy, and appreciate the movements of bodies, my own and those of others. I want to lay under the sun, or rain, or clouds- and soak in all the things that people can't enjoy because they're too busy earning a living to pay for mounds of unnecessary garbage and a week of false solitude and relaxation. I want to feel intrigued forever.

Why it is Important to Read the Newspaper...

BREAKING NEWS
>>House arrest for coke-fuelled attack

A Sarnia man who bruised his spouse from head to toe during a cocaine-fuelled evening that ended with the naked couple struggling on a neighbour's lawn was sentenced to house arrest in a Sarnia court today.

At one point during the four-hour confrontation, she hit him with a beer bottle, which left a bleeding gash on his head.

The couple admitted using cocaine that evening. The man also drank beer but testified neither substance affected his actions.

The confrontation took place in several rooms of their Sarnia home, including the kitchen, where the couple faced each other holding knives. At another point they were in a jacuzzi together.

The husband's concern about his wife's infidelity led to the confrontation, said his defence lawyer. It ended when she bolted naked from the home with her husband chasing her and pinning her to the ground on a neighbour's front lawn.

The man told the neighbour that everything was fine, but the neighbour proceeded to call 911.

Fort Building

We made a fort that looked something like this yesterday and slept in it:

It's amazing what some bed sheets, a few brooms, and some dental floss can create. Our fort was a vessel for music listening, candlelit ambiance, Pop Rocks candy, wine, and the sharing of horrific news stories and wonderful ideas. Further proof that genuine fun is generally free, or at least quite inexpensive.

Little Things

A woman, her husband and their two young children sat down with Chinese food. The woman parked her stroller beside the table. She cracked open her fortune cookie, put down the fortune without reading it, and gave the cookie to her young daughter. After ensuring her daughter was content with the peach coloured cookie, the mother picked up the fortune and read it. In that single moment I realized I always would have read the fortune first. This confirms all that I already knew about myself.

Conveyor Belt Stories

I have a tendency to spy on the conveyor belt while waiting in line at the grocery store. I entertain myself with hyper-personal stories and scenes of the people ahead and behind me based solely on their grocery purchases.

Medium-sized frozen vegetable lasagna, one roll (not two), box of tea.

Single man, possibly a divorceé, sitting in a well lived-in one bedroom apartment, surrounded by walls of books. He listens to gritty jazz, wears patterned dress socks and keeps his apartment extra warm (utilities are included). He isn’t unhappy, but isn’t happy either; he just lives and is waiting for something, anything, to amend the mundane routine. He eats half the lasagna and brings the other half to work the next morning. He sips tea (2 cups) from a brown mug, watches 60 Minutes, goes to bed at 11 o’clock and has a knitted quilt-like blanket on the back of his couch. He also has a large number of keys on his key ring.

Meat department chicken with bones, sprouts, broccoli, celery, carrots, black forest cake, 4L tub of No Name vanilla ice cream.

Woman with an only child, age 8; passionless but comfortable marriage, close with extended family. She hasn’t blow-dried her hair in years, and what little make-up she once wore, she stopped wearing 3 weeks after her husband proposed. She has been to her home country (elsewhere), and Canada, but nowhere else. She likes country music. The kitchen in their house has laminate flooring, mismatched dishes and dated cupboards, but she is proud of it all, and should be. Three generations eat chicken stir-fry in the formal dining room that gets used about 4 times a year. It is her mother’s birthday so the woman splurged on the cake because she knows it is her favourite. The ice cream sits in the chest freezer, only to be brought out at the end of summer, full of icy freezer burn. They eat it anyway.

Laughing Yellow Light

Life is so bizarre.
It is so odd how everyday our mindsets have the ability to change so rapidly.
One day we wake up so positive and feel great about life. The next day we wake up negative and without optimism, even though nothing much has changed from one day to the next.
Our minds play such tricks on us.
Or, when we look in the mirror and think we look adequate, and then the next day we look again only to find someone not so attractive staring back. Nothing has truly changed, yet to ourselves, we see an undeniable difference.
One day we feel so sure of something, and then, overnight our minds are morphed and somehow we doubt everything that we thought was so static.
Life is so bizarre.

So, in terms of where I have been for the last month or so, Chictopia has been my productive outlet for all things fashion. It is a great online community or People's Fashion Destination full of "chic" individuals who give you honest feedback on outfits and style while at the same time allowing you to showcase your personal fashion ideas with photos, polls, comments, forums and countless other features. It is great for inspiring your inner creative side and getting an idea of what people are wearing all across the world, as seen in the Style Gallery photos. I find Chictopia much more rewarding than Facebook, which of course was entertaining in its own way as well but completely unnecessary (hence my deletion of it!). Anyways, lots of awesome people on Chictopia and a great way to spend a rainy afternoon and get inspired.

I am violently happy.

Delightful People

I was thinking today (gasp!), and there are some (few) people who are truly delightful. What makes these people so distinct from the vast number of mundane individuals we must encounter on a regular basis? FUN is a compulsory accident when you are with them. Time literally seems to speed up and before you know it, hours, days, nights, have disappeared and you wonder how the fast forward button got pressed without your authority. I miss these delightful people, and why can't there be more of them? Maybe that they are such rarities is what makes them so delightful in the first place.
